Zebra Stripes Clash with Insect Interest

Scientists are studying why biting insects prefer plain colored hide, to zebra stripes, implying that the stripes are and anti-insect adaption. Zebra embryos start off black and then develop their white stripes, do the white stripes confuse the insects? Scientists went to a farm infested with horseflies and found that yes, horseflies are indeed more attracted to plain colored horses than zebras. Why!
